questions about games |

What video game consoles/machines do you own/have
you owned?
Commodore 64, Nintendo 64, PS1, PS2, Xbox, Xbox360 and PC.
What games are you currently playing?
GTA4 (a lot of), COD4, Audio Surf, Spore Creature Creator, Bad Company, GRID and of course Shellshock2 :) I also regularly play lots of Xbox live demos and arcade content across a range of genres.
What is it that you enjoy about them/dislike
about them? Two positives and negatives. |
| + positives |
|
- negatives |
1. The experience: quality production
values, realism, diversity and challenging
game play.
2. Breaking the mould
in "the experience" is a common
characteristic of games I like - games that strive to aqdd increasing levels of interaction and involvement
inspire me. Other important characteristics are weapon design, sound/ scores / atmospheric
effects etc. |
|
1. With enemies and other
game elements spawning in the same place each
time, most of these games don't have any randomness
to them, are too structured with too much
hand-holding and not enough flexibility and
freedom.
2. Most come with badly designed editors
and the promise of designing your own levels.
Usually users just want to bend a track, change
a skin, move an enemy or make random the movement
of enemies. |
What are your favourite games of all
time?
GT1, 2 & 3, FIFA 98, MDK, Worms, Soul
Reaver, Sim City+, Populous, Driver, Half-life, GTA
Vice City, Battlefield series, Counter-Strike
(Net), Elite Force, Descent, Abe's Odyssey,
G-Police, Duke Nuke'm, Doom, Platoon &
last but not least Rambo (C64)
[see my all
time top 10 games]
What is it that you like/dislike about
them? Two positives and negatives. |
| + positives |
|
- negatives |
1. All these games have a level of
quality that makes them stand out from the
crowd. The weird world of MDK, the humour
of Worms, The weapons and innovation of Duke
Nuke'm, the realism of Half-life and the involvement of the spectacular
Battlefield.
2. Each game in its time was pushing
the envelope of what was possible or expected
in their respective genre, prepared to innovate
and take risks, which sometimes work or do
not but always add to the genre. |
|
1. Some games have dated too quickly,
possibly by design, but games like FIFA 98,
Driver, Vice City and the GT series still look good;
play good with no two sessions being the same.
2. All games are limited in one or
more ways, the level of interaction, enemy
intelligence, believability etc. All games
lack enough in-game editing features, with
obvious exceptions like FIFA 98+ and Worms
|
Ideally what genre of game (action/adventure,
car racing, sports) would you like to make
and why?
1. Action/adventure: Certainly my personal
favourite genre as this format provides great potential for an involved
experience and it has the widest possibilities
for detail design and game concept design.
Any genre that facilitates the possibility to create an involved gamespace, an environment rich in interactivity, detail and humour with the potential for as involved a game experience possible.
2. Any genre where there is tempting uncharted territory and some room for innovation.
